The Recreation Therapy Service Line’s mission is to provide comprehensive rehabilitative care to veterans in need of rehabilitation to attain their full physical, psychosocial, educational, and vocational potential and return to community living. Rehabilitation is provided by an interdisciplinary team that applies state-of-the-art clinical skills, equipment and techniques. Recreation Therapy Service will utilize hospital, community, state, and federal resources effectively and optimize patient outcomes thus achieving high patient satisfaction.

Therapeutic Sports and Recreation Department at Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital has modified our internship/fieldwork program to expand volunteer opportunities for students wishing to gain clinical experience prior to the Senior Internship.

We now offer 5 options for students to accumulate volunteer/fieldwork hours at Marianjoy:

Duties focus on activities that contribute to prairie restoration including maintenance and expansion of native seed production (planting, weeding, watering), invasive plant control, seed collection, prairie management, and monitoring (data collection). There will be limited learning experiences concerning prairie ecology and native plant identification. Duties will also require use of herbicides to control invasive plant species, primarily using backpack sprayers. Use of some power tools (riding mowers, brush mowers, weed whips, rototillers, soil augers) also required.

Mental health unit with inpatient and outpatient services.
