Therapeutic Recreation

Orchard Village supports nearly 300 individuals of all ages through our transitional school Orchard Academy, day programs InnOVations and DiscOVer, Vocational program, Residential CILAs, and Intermittent services. The Therapeutic Recreation department operates a total of 18 programs including: horticultural therapy on our half acre production garden, Fitness programs, Adaptive Biking, Special Olympics, Adaptive Bocce, 1:1 Recreation Education, Drama, and Cooking as well as providing therapeutic recreation interventions and programs for the Orchard Academy and Day programs.

Looking for interns who are eager to learn and want to work with the older adult population. Students will learn  and develop skills in assisted living and skilled nursing. Students need to be vaccinated and be comfortable meeting the typical demands that are placed on healthcare providers in light of the on going pandemic. Bradford Woods is Indiana University’s Outdoor Center and is supported by the Riley Children’s Foundation and Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis.

Bradford Woods operates 10 weeks of Recreation Therapy summer camps for children with cancer, sickle cell anemia, cerebral palsy, craniofacial anomalies, hearing loss, muscular dystrophy, autism, various physical disabilities, rare genetic disorders, and Down syndrome.

About STARS: With a mission to empower and enrich lives through adaptive recreational activities, STARS (Steamboat Adaptive Recreational Sports) was founded in 2006 to provide recreational programming to individuals with disabilities. We strive to increase our participants’ independence while focusing on their abilities rather than disabilities. Our program is based on the three pillars of safety, fun, and learning so participants can work to achieve their personal goals!

Central Wisconsin Center (CWC) was opened in 1959.  It provides short-term and residential services to assist individuals living with intellectual disabilities in acquiring the personal skills needed to reach their highest potential. Ongoing active treatment is provided so individuals can acquire skills toward personal independence to attain a high quality of life. Currently, more than 200 people live in the residential program.
