First Year Wilderness Experience Internship

Florida State University’s Outdoor Pursuits program is searching for an intern this summer to work with our First Year Wilderness Experience program. Program Overview:
Florida State University’s First Year Wilderness Experience (FYWE) program is a multi-day outdoor adventure program for incoming first-year students. FYWE put out its first trip during the summer of 2015 and is a branch of Outdoor Pursuits in Campus Recreation. This program will provide students with an opportunity to experience outdoor recreation activities along with other new students during two separate 4-day adventures. The intent of the FYWE program is to allow students the opportunity to meet other incoming freshmen, explore Florida’s beautiful outdoors, and establish a support network for their first year of college.
Skills & Qualifications:
· Be a full or part-time university student in good academic standing
· Demonstrate knowledge of recreation policies and procedures and the ability to work effectively within a university setting
· Enthusiastic and committed to working in the outdoors and with groups of people
· Excellent written and oral communication abilities
· Experience with outdoor leadership and trip leading preferred
Duties & Responsibilities:
· Depending on qualifications, potentially serve as one of the trip leaders
· Perform marketing and outreach activities to promote awareness and reach potential participants (speak at orientation, tabling, emails, etc.)
· Prepare all logistics for meals and gear for the trips
· Assist in program planning and implementation
· Create assessment to evaluate the trips

· Direct supervision from and collaboration with the Coordinator of Outdoor Pursuits
· Network and learn from professionals in a variety of Campus Recreation positions
· Learn the operations of the gear rental office
· Discounted price on Outdoor Pursuits trips during the summer
